This course will offer students the opportunity to grow in understanding of preaching in the Christian church; to develop and strengthen gifts in the preparation and delivery of sermons; to support colleagues in preaching through mutual encouragement and critique.

Course Objectives

  • To gain sensitivity to the complexity of interrelationship among Scripture text, worshipping congregation and delivery in preaching.

  • To develop one's own skills in the art of preaching that are faithful to the task and Christian tradition.

  • To conceive through the study of scripture text and guidance of the Holy Spirit, execute by the discipline of writing, and present to colleagues two sermons for review and evaluation.

  • To learn to receive and give constructive criticism that enhances the ability to preach and to listen to preaching.
